RESILIENCY PROGRAM
H.I.P.O

Funded by Alberta Health Services SOARING Grant
which stands for Strengthen Opportunities for Adolescent Resilience, Inclusion and Growth among youth ages 12-24 in Alberta. This pilot project is an opportunity for youth to identify, plan and develop an activity or initiative that has the potential to address local needs, and reduce risk factors/bolster protective factors linked to injury prevention.
The focus of this project is to increase access to Health-related, Individualized, Physical wellness Opportunities for Youth. Project goals and activities are all determined by Youth.
For our youth, who normally would not have the funds for costly activities, this program brings them the chance for new experiences! The hope is also to foster a sense of belonging with peers, as well, as a break from their everyday stressors in life.
So far, we have been able to go to galaxy land, trampoline park, rage room, purple city, and steel wheels.
Funded by Frayme’s Great Big Stories Two-Eyed Seeing Grant
Family Gatherings will be a safe space to share recovery stories and cultural healing experiences. We hope youth learn about cultural practices and ways of knowing through these storytelling opportunities which they can then incorporate into their own mental well-being. Speakers/facilitators may include elders, knowledge keepers, indigenous youth, and community members with lived experiences.
For youth ages 11- 24 (to promote an intergenerational gathering, youth may bring any members of their family)
The option of transportation via bus pass, cab, or pick-up by outreach workers will decrease barriers faced by individuals interested in attending the gatherings.
Our key goals for this project are:
-
Reduce transportation barriers to improve youth, and family/caregiver access for our family gatherings.
-
Empower youth to learn about and incorporate cultural ways of knowing into their mental well-being through our family gatherings.
-
Work collaboratively with service providers, community members, Elders, and Indigenous knowledge keepers to provide an integrated safe space for open storytelling.
